Should Tribe be an Obstacle in marriage?

Am just angry at the rate at which some tribes in Nigeria discriminate against the others to the extent that they are willing to sacrifice their children happiness just because of what they hear about other tribes. Without any intention of sounding bias, a common case is the “Omo Ibo” syndrom among the Yoruba’s.

Many Yoruba Family screams “God forbid” when their daughter mentions an Ibo name as the name of the man they intend to marry. They don’t care if their is love or not, all they know is that they must not marry Omo-Ibo. Some give silly excuses like ‘Omo-Ibo’s use their wife for rituals’, some say Omo-Ibo’s will leave them and marry another Ibo wife, blah blah blah… Where do this happen, If all Omo-Ibo’s are devils, who are the Angels?

There are no angels in this world. Such sentiments are based on the fact that many Nigerians know next to nothing about the culture of other tribes. It is true that the Ibos have some funny traditions but it is the same way that an average Ibo would find some of the Yoruba traditions very ridiculous. It is up to this current generation to transcend the pettiness and get on with what they want.

I do not see why a true Christian would be afraid of Ibos ‘cos of voodoo and not every Ibo is into voodoo.

Well, it depends upon your way of understanding it. I strongly feel that marriage is the stepping stone to a relationship which two souls build between themselves.
